My Story

I have always been a performer and storyteller, and I aim to create different worlds and characters that are believable and thought provoking. I hold an MA in Scriptwriting, a BA (Hons) in Acting and a PGCE in teaching drama. I started off volunteering in local radio and youth theatre.

At 14 I was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa, a genetic eye condition in which the rods and cones of the eyes gradually deteriorate and I am now registered as severely partially sighted.  As I gradually lose my sight, I feel it gives me a unique perspective on how we "view" the world. I am keen to bring my own understanding and experiences to writing for the under represented and also to convey how society can react to another person's different or "other" reality.

As an actor I have a deeper understanding of how characters can be successfully brought to life from the written page to the stage or screen, and allowed to expand or change within rehearsal workshops.  Having directed productions, I also have practical experience in making a script work in the "real" world, and not just in the writer's head. This organic process can also bring unexpected surprises and improvements in a script.

My own challenges in life have given me a strength of purpose and I hope that I can connect with industry professionals to offer my stories to share with a wider audience.
